Should we get light or dark colored countertops in our kitchen?

Our cabinets are a medium colored wood. Kind of pecan-ish. We are planning on using our tax money to get new countertops (YEAH!!). Our current countertop is old and starting to separate from the wall. We are going to get this fake granite stuff that looks pretty cool. Just wondered if a lighter color would go better or a darker color. Thanks!

It’d depend on the rest of the kitchen scenery, such as the floor, the wall, even the lighting (as in both a light you turn on and the light from a window). However, it’d sound like black would work nicely in my opinion.
