Granite Countertop Supports Overhang
What do I use to support bar countertop without corbels?
I’m remodeling the kitchen… I’ll have a peninsula of cabinetry, then a wall, built up 8″ above regular countertop, and a raised bar area that curves from 14″ to 22″ and back to 14″ (overhang approx. 10″ to 18″ and back). Surface will be granite. I don’t like corbels; can I support the raised countertop without them, and how?
My brother does cabinetry for high-end kitchens, and he told me he’s seen some kind of steel brackets attached to the pony walls that are built up behind the cabinetry. They support the countertop but remain hidden. The counter guys always bring them, though, and he’s not sure where to find them. Our job is more DIY, so I’d like to find some of these kinds of “hidden counter supports”.
<>I don’t know if how exposed the underside of the contertop will be, but you could use a steel plate that is attached on the inside of the cabinetry as a support shelf.
